African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) soldiers from the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) donated an assortment of educational materials to a Somali school on November 20.
Embresso Primary School received the learning materials from the UPDF soldiers on Friday.
A communiqué from AMISOM said that the donation was to help improve the standards of education in Barawe District, which is in Southwest State.
Col. Edward Kaddu, the Commander of the Battle Group Twenty Nine (BGXXIX), handed the donation on behalf of Brig. Gen. Richard Otto, Sector One Commander.
In his remarks, Col. Kaddu commended the local community for investing in quality education for their children.
He also expressed gratitude to the Somali National Army (SNA) and traditional elders for the excellent cooperation demonstrated in the region.
Col. Kaddu told the gathering that his unit would not have maintained security and peace in the region without the contribution of other stakeholders.
The donation featured 150 desks, 50 plastic chairs, and 4 office tables.
It also included 560 exercise books, 6 classroom tables for teachers, 4 wooden blackboards, and 120 counter books.
