Amnesty Eastern Africa has condemned in the strongest terms possible the arbitrary arrest of the Secretary-General of the Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS).
The organization issued a press release on Monday condemning the decision by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) to arrest Abdalle Ahmed Mumin.
Mumin is SJS’ Secretary-General.
While condemning the arrest, Amnesty Eastern Africa also hit out at Somali authorities for the continued intimidation and frustration of journalists.
It asked authorities to release Mumin “immediately and unconditionally.”
Furthermore, the organization asked Somali authorities to not only respect but also protect and promote the freedom of expression.
