The Arab League has announced plans by Iraq to cancel some of the debts that Somalia owes.
Zayd Saban, a Director of the Arab League’s Horn of Africa and Sudan Department, broke the news on Iraq’s plans on Monday.
He added that the Iraqi government had already sent a memorandum to the organization on the matter.
Saban revealed this during a media interview on Saturday.
As of December 2019, Somalia owed Iraq approximately $187 million. Nevertheless, it is not clear how much of that debt Iraq is willing to write off.
