Arab Ministerial Working Group Meeting in Cairo Rejects Ethiopia’s MoU with Somaliland

An Arab Ministerial Working Group meeting held in Cairo recently rejected a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland.

The ministers, who met on Wednesday, expressed strong opposition to the MoU, considering it a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the group emphasized that Somaliland is an integral part of Somalia and that any agreements with external entities must involve the Federal Government of Somalia.

This move aligns with the Arab League’s longstanding position of supporting Somalia’s unity and rejecting any actions that could undermine its sovereignty.

The group also called on Ethiopia to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity and to refrain from entering into agreements that could create regional instability.

Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, chaired the meeting.

He led his colleagues in reaffirming strong Arab support and solidarity with Somalia.
