Arbitrary Detention of Somali Journalists Hasn’t Stopped, NUSOJ Tells UN Human Rights Council

The arbitrary detention of journalists in Somalia has not stopped.

Omar Faruk Osman, the Secretary-General of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), said this while addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council.

He addressed the UN Human Rights Council virtually on October 5.

Osman told the Council that authorities in the East African nation are yet to stop arresting journalists arbitrarily for doing their work.

In his view, the brutality against Somali journalists has now reached “unprecedented levels.”
