Around 4% of Somalis Possess Passports

Around 4 percent of Somalis possess passports as the only form of identification.

A report by Somalia Integrated Household Budget Survey (SIHBS) in 2022 revealed this startling piece of information.

The SIHBS 2022 report shows that only 4.1 percent of all Somalis have passports.

Currently, a passport is the only form of national identity document available to Somalis in the East African nation.

Recently, the federal parliament approved the National Identification Act.

The Act is scheduled to make it much easier for all eligible Somalis to get their identification cards.
