Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) has condemned the arrest of Abdirahman Yusuf Mohamed, who is the owner of ASTAAN TV.
Mohamed has now been in custody for the last five days since police officers arrested him on July 18, 2020 at night.
SOLJA condemned his arrest, which the police are yet to explain.
The association has sought more information on the reasons for his arrest but none has been forthcoming yet.
Consequently, SOLJA has requested the government to bring him to court as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the association has asked authorities responsible for his arrest not to deny him his constitutional rights.
They said that Mohamed is entitled to access his lawyer and family.
Mohamoud Abdi Jama, the Chairperson of SOLJA, asked the government to tread carefully lest it discourages more investments in the media industry.
