Astaan Becomes Somalia’s First Official Starlink Reseller

Mogadishu, Somalia – Mogadishu-based media and technology firm Astaan has announced that it is now the first official reseller of Starlink services in Somalia, marking a significant step in the country’s expanding digital connectivity.

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, delivers high-speed internet through a network of satellites in low Earth orbit, designed to provide reliable coverage even in remote and underserved regions. The service was recently launched in Somalia, a country where traditional infrastructure challenges have long hindered stable internet access.

Astaan, best known for its television network and digital platforms, said the partnership will position it at the forefront of Somalia’s technology and communication landscape. By reselling Starlink, the company aims to extend high-speed internet access to homes, businesses, schools, and government institutions across the country.

“This milestone reflects Astaan’s commitment to advancing Somalia’s digital transformation. Starlink’s cutting-edge technology will help bridge connectivity gaps and create opportunities in education, business, and innovation,” the company said in a statement.

Somalia’s internet sector has grown steadily in recent years, driven largely by private investment, mobile penetration, and demand for better communication services. However, access remains uneven, especially in rural and conflict-affected areas. Industry experts say Starlink could be a game-changer in narrowing that divide.

With Astaan as an official reseller, Starlink subscriptions are expected to become more accessible to Somali customers, supported by local service and technical assistance.

The announcement also comes at a time when Somalia is pushing digital reforms, including the rollout of a national ID system and broader efforts to modernize governance, commerce, and education. Improved internet connectivity is seen as vital to sustaining these reforms.

Analysts believe Astaan’s partnership with Starlink may also encourage other Somali technology firms to explore innovative solutions for connectivity, further integrating the country into the global digital economy.
