The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and Somali National Army (SNA) intensified joint security patrols in Barawe.
Col. Christopher Berochan, an ATMIS Commander, confirmed the patrols to the media.
Col. Berochan leads Battle Group 38 of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
He termed the joint patrols “proactive and reactive.”
“Our joint proactive and reactive patrols are effective at maintaining security in the Lower Shabelle region,” added Col. Berochan.
“We undertook the patrols following intelligence reports that Al-Shabaab intensified their activities in the region,” said Col. Berochan.
