ATMIS Pledges Readiness to Work with Prime Minister Barre’s Government

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has reaffirmed its willingness to work with the new Somali government.

ATMIS issued a press release dated June 25 congratulating Hamza Abdi Barre for being approved by the federal parliament to serve as Somalia’s new Prime Minister.

The House of the People (Lower House) approved Barre overwhelmingly.

All the 220 legislators who attended Saturday’s session approved Barre’s appointment by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as the Prime Minister.

In its statement, ATMIS stated that it is ready to work with Prime Minister Barre’s cabinet.

Prime Minister now has around 30 days to form and announce his cabinet.
