ATMIS to Withdraw 3,000 Additional Troops from Somalia by September

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) will reduce its troops in the East African nation further before the end of September 2023.

ATMIS is scheduled to reduce its troops further by 3,000 by the end of September 2023.

This would be according to a recent resolution by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In UNSC Resolution 2687 (2023), the global body resolved to extend the ATMIS mandate in Somalia up to December 2024.

UNSC passed Resolution 2687 (2023) on June 27.

After withdrawing 2,000 troops by the end of June, ATMIS now has around 17,626 forces that should reduce further within the next three months.
