ATMIS Ugandan Contingent Hands over Barire Base to SNA

The Ugandan contingent of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) handed over its base in Barire to the Somali National Army (SNA).

SNA forces received the base from the ATMIS troops from Uganda on Saturday.

They have been at Barire, a town in the Lower Shabelle region, for years.

The handing over was part of the ongoing drawdown of ATMIS forces in Somalia. ATMIS intends to pull out of Somalia completely by December 31, 2024.

By the end of June this year, around 2,000 ATMIS forces will have pulled out of Somalia.
