The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has welcomed the approval of the new Somali cabinet.
ATMIS congratulated the House of the People (Lower House) for approving the cabinet that Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre recently appointed.
The Prime Minister appointed the cabinet last week.
Lower House legislators then voted overwhelmingly to approve the Prime Minister’s cabinet on Sunday, August 7.
On Monday, ATMIS issued a statement commending parliament for approving the cabinet.
In its statement, ATMIS stated that it is ready to work with the new government closely to implement its mandate of handing over all security-related functions.
ATMIS is to hand over security functions to Somali National Army (SNA) by December 2024.
