Somalia’s Attorney General has warned the country’s journalists against “broadcasting falsehoods.”
Suleyman Mohamud, the Attorney General, warned the media to stop what he called the “broadcasting of false information to the public.”
The announcement is likely to be interpreted as yet one more move by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to suppress press freedom.
Attorney General Mohamud made this announcement during an interview with members of the fourth estate.
“Several journalists and media houses have consistently violated the law by broadcasting unfounded allegations designed to incite Somalis towards violence,” Mohamud said.
He also mentioned several interviews conducted on falsehoods and headlines designed to cause instability in the nation.
