The African Union (AU) has commended Somalia for the new elections timeline.
A week ago, Somalia agreed to conclude all elections for parliamentary seats by February 25, 2022.
It settled on this following the weeklong National Consultative Council (NCC) Conference.
On January 13, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairman of the AU Commission (AUC), welcomed Somalia’s new elections timeline.
On Thursday, Faki said the decision by NCC was quite encouraging.
He reminded Somalia of AUC’s position on the importance of holding credible elections as a crucial and necessary step towards achieving lasting peace in Somalia.
Faki also encouraged Somali leaders to exercise restraint while promoting interactive political dialogue.
