The African Union military team completed a fact-finding mission to Somalia.
Members of the AU Military Staff Committee completed their tour on Tuesday.
Souef Mohamed El-Amine, the Head of the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), commended members of the team for the tour.
He announced that ATMIS is ready to hand over several Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) to Somalia.
El-Amine added that ATMIS would hand over the FOBs to Somali National Army (SNA) as of June 15, 2023.
This would be a precursor to the planned drawdown of 2,000 ATMIS forces in the country by the end of this month.
