AU Saddened by Current Political Situation in Somalia

African Union (AU) has expressed its sadness at the current political situation in Somalia after the skirmishes involving government troops and opposition supporters on February 19.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of AU Commission (AUC), said that the situation in Somalia has left him and the entire organization “deeply concerned.”

Mahamat condemned “all forms of political violence” in Somalia.

Moreover, he called upon stakeholders in Somalia to avoid acts that could jeopardize the country’s peace and security.

He also urged Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Federal Member States (FMS), opposition politicians, and all stakeholders to embrace dialogue.

Further, he said that the political class in Somalia should act in the best interests of the citizens.
