Somalia’s Auditor General has identified several “suspicious expenditures” in the country’s budgetary allocations.
Auditor General Mohamed Ali mentioned his suspicions in the latest 2020/2021 report.
For example, Ali showed that various departments of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) “failed to account for huge sums of money.”
Ali’s report listed 35 government agencies that he investigated.
It mentioned 246 errors noted in financial reporting and asset management. The report also listed failure in reporting expenditures accurately.
Furthermore, he faulted the government departments over failure to “register new contracts with his office.”
The Auditor General’s report comes at a time the opposition has been accusing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s administration of using public resources for campaigns.
