Mogadishu – The Deputy Force Commander for Support and Logistics of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Major General Peter Kimani Muteti, paid a visit on Friday to Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel injured in Wednesday’s helicopter crash at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu.
The soldiers are currently receiving treatment at the Level 2 Hospital in Mogadishu, where Gen. Muteti expressed admiration for their courage and resilience. He offered words of encouragement to the wounded troops and wished them a quick and complete recovery.
In his remarks, Gen. Muteti extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing the crash as a tragic and unfortunate event.
“Their bravery and service in pursuit of peace and stability in Somalia will not be forgotten,” he said.
Gen. Muteti was accompanied during the hospital visit by senior AUSSOM officials, including Sector One Deputy Commander Colonel Christopher Tumwine and the Level 2 Hospital Commander, Captain Carolyne Nabattu.
The AUSSOM leadership continues to monitor the situation closely as investigations into the cause of the helicopter crash are reportedly underway. The UPDF is a key troop-contributing contingent under the AUSSOM mandate, which recently replaced the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) following a strategic mission transition endorsed by the African Union and the Somali federal government.
