Somaliland authorities have arrested several municipal employees to face corruption-related charges in court.
The anti-corruption agency arrested the employees, who work for Zeila Municipality.
Apart from the workers, several employees working for the provincial administration as coordinators have been detained too.
Reports indicate that several other workers have been suspended. They include those from Lasanod, Borama, Buroa, and Berbera.
The workers have been detained and suspended from work at a time when Somaliland’s Auditor General is undertaking intense investigations into activities of town halls in the country.
Municipalities around Somaliland are notorious for engaging on corrupt deals and activities.
Therefore, the measures taken on Monday by the Office of the Auditor General and all investigative arms of the government are highly welcomed.
