Baboons Invade Halane Camp in Mogadishu

The presence of baboons at Mogadishu’s Halane Camp has reportedly disrupted operations, prompting the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) to explore non-lethal measures to address the situation.

The growing wildlife problem includes property damage, food theft, and occasional aggressive behavior by the animals.

UNSOS is considering wildlife deterrence techniques, such as installing barriers, using scent repellents, and engaging professional wildlife management teams to safely relocate the baboons.

This unusual challenge highlights the intersection of human activities and wildlife, emphasizing the need for sustainable and humane solutions in conflict-affected zones like Somalia.
