Badhan elders have distanced themselves from the recent forcible evictions in Las Anod.
Somaliland authorities have been forcibly evicting Somalis from the Las Anod region since October 2.
Recently, Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi said that the evictions would continue as his country is unwilling to host refugees from south Somalia.
Now, the elders have spoken against the evictions.
On October 20, they issued a statement asking Somaliland authorities to stop viewing Somalis in Las Anod with suspicion.
Moreover, they also requested the victims of the evictions to move to Badhan to resettle.
Somalis in the region have four days left before the deadline the Somaliland authorities issued to them to leave the area expires.
Thus far, more than 7,200 people have been evicted, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its report.
