President Musa Bihi Abdi has told President Mohamed Abdilahi Farmaajo of Somalia to acknowledge Somaliland’s statehood first before visiting Hargeisa.
During a radio interview with VOA Somalia Service, Bihi said, “Farmaajo is not permitted to visit Hargeisa if he does not acknowledge the sovereignty and independence of Somaliland.”
Bihi also addressed a raft of issues during the interview, which mostly centered on the measures his country needs to take to maintain and achieve the much-desired sovereignty.
President Bihi also assured the people of Somaliland that they would not bite the bait being presented to them to rejoin Somalia and take the presidency in the coming polls.
He reminded the world that Somaliland never seceded from Somalia. Instead, his country severed the union it had formed with Somalia when the two nations got their independence.
Bihi blamed the aggressive stance that Somalia had taken against it since being readmitted into the global community after decades of internal strife.
Nevertheless, Bihi offered reassurances that Somaliland is open to continuing the dialogue between the two nations, which had stalled briefly.
