A call center that caters for the needs of women interested in vying for leadership positions anywhere in Somalia has been established.
The call center is to be based in Mogadishu.
The Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development established the call center with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Further, UNFPA is to extend technical support to the call center too.
Prior to its conversion into a call center for aspiring women candidates and leaders, the building was an old school block.
Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim, the Minister of Women and Human Rights Development launched the facility officially on January 24, 2021.
She was accompanied by Abdihakim Ashkir, the State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.
While opening the center, Ibrahim said that it would not be for election purposes only but also be available to host women’s meetings.
In the meantime, Ibrahim said that the center would play a crucial role in advocating women’s pursuit of 30 percent representation in parliament.
