Calm Returns to Garowe a Day after Deadly Clashes

Calm has returned to Garowe a day after violent and deadly clashes broke out in the city.

Garowe was the scene of bloody clashes on Tuesday.

The clashes were between government troops and forces loyal to the opposition.

Government troops returned to their bases when elders requested them to do so as part of kick-starting the peace process.

They fought because of plans to amend the constitution.

President Said Abdullahi Deni has been quietly working behind the scene to extend his term in office.

However, opposition politicians are against that idea.

Forces allied to the opposition fought with their colleagues supporting President Deni over the term-extension plans.
