Conflict Armament Research (CAR) has teamed up with the United Kingdom and Germany to help Somalia register weapons in the country.
Somalia has tons of illegal weapons in the hands of unregistered individuals.
Ultimately, such weapons end up being used to commit terror and other types of crime in the East African country.
Susanne Baumann, the Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control for the United Nations, made this announcement on December 9.
Baumann said that CAR is working closely with Somalia’s international partners to eradicate the presence of unregistered weapons in the nation.
Somalia has witnessed more than its share of armed conflicts, especially since the 1990s when Civil War broke out.
Militant groups have also taken advantage of the situation to cause havoc in the nation.
Baumann said that a mobile app has been launched for this purpose. She confirmed that the app would give authorities an easier time managing weapons and ammunition in the nation.
