Bishop Giorgio Bertin of the Catholic Church has expressed hope that relations with the new government in Somalia will improve.
Bishop Bertin is the Apostolic Administrator of Mogadishu, Somalia.
He spoke on August 19 in an interview with Fidel News, which was captured in Vatican News.
In his interview, Bishop Bertin expressed optimism that the new cabinet named by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and approved by the House of the People earlier this month would do a good job.
He mentioned that the approval indicates that the political progress has started working.
Bishop Bertin said that he has already held discussions with Somali government officials together with other Catholic Church leaders.
The purpose of the discussions was to improve relations between the Catholic Church and the Somali government.
Further, they discussed the ongoing drought in Somalia.
He expressed hope that Somalia would allow increased religious freedom.
