China has donated 200,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The donation of Sinopharm vaccines from China arrived in the East African nation on April 11.
While receiving the vaccines, Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, Somalia’s Minister of Health, expressed gratitude to China for the donation.
She said that the vaccines arrived at the right time when Somalia is grappling with the second wave of the deadly disease.
Dr. Nur also reassured China that 100,000 would benefit from the vaccine.
The health minister promised to supervise the distribution of the vaccine to all the Federal Member States (FMS) in the country.
Qin Jian, China’s Ambassador to Somalia, said that his country was the first to donate COVID-19 vaccines to the Horn of Africa nation.
He promised that China would not stop supporting various projects and humanitarian needs in Somalia.
In March 2021, Somalia received a donation of 300,000 AstraZeneca vaccines.
