More than 10 children have reportedly been killed after contracting cholera in the past few days in Lower Shabelle.
Authorities discovered an outbreak of cholera at a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) located in the outskirts of the Lower Shabelle district of Marka.
Residents at the IDP camp said that they lack some basic amenities at the facility.
They blame the outbreak of cholera on the absence of quality food, toilets, and proper accommodation.
Most of the IDPs at the camp were displaced from around 40 villages close to Burow Ba’ad.
Consequently, the residents have now appealed to the Southwest State administration to improve sanitary and hygienic conditions at the camp.
The children have already been buried although it is suspected that the situation is probably worse with more of them sick, weak, and suffering malnutrition.
