Christian Couple Deported from Somaliland

A Christian couple was deported from Somaliland after a period of detention on charges of being “apostates and evangelists.”

Authorities in the majorly Muslim country first detained the couple.

Later, they released the couple before deporting them from Somalia’s breakaway region.

The couple left the country with their youngest child to an unknown destination where they were scheduled to reunite with their two elder sons.

The couple has been in detention since September 21, 2020.

They were arrested after Somaliland police officers found Christian literature in their home.

Authorities presented them in regional court severally. Eventually, the regional court ordered their release and subsequent deportation on November 1.

The lawyer representing the couple in court claims that they were released after European Union representatives raised their plight with the Ministry of Religious Studies.
