Civil Society Urges FMS and FGS Leaders to Open Dhusamareb Talks to Other Stakeholders

Leaders of civil society organizations in Somalia have requested leaders attending the Dhusamareb talks to open them up to other stakeholders too.

President Mohamed Farmaajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire are attending the meeting with leaders of the Federal Member States (FMS) in Dhusamareb.

Other leaders present at the meeting include President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland and President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland.

President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle, President Abdulaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen of Southwest state are also attending the talks.

Galmudug’s President Ahmed Abdi Kariye is hosting the talks in the state’s administrative capital of Dhusamareb.

However, members of the civil society are up in arms protesting their exclusion and that of other stakeholders from the talks.

According to them, politicians attending the meeting are full of distrust and unable to compromise their stance on the main obstacles impeding the progress of the talks.

Consequently, stakeholders who are not too focused on politics are the missing ingredient at the talks, according to the civil society leaders.

In their view, the leaders attending the Dhusamareb talks should open the discussion up to include stakeholders interested in the welfare of all Somalis.
