A Comorian diplomat has been appointed the new envoy of the African Union (AU) to Somalia.
Ambassador Mohammed El-Amine Souef takes over as the Special Representative of the AU Chairperson to Somalia and the Head of the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
His appointment was made official on Sunday, September 4.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, the AUC Chairperson, announced Ambassador Souef’s appointment.
Ambassador Souef replaces Francisco Madeira who was expelled from Somalia by the immediate previous Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
Ex-Prime Minister Roble declared Madeira persona non grata.
Ambassador Souef brings a wealth of experience in diplomatic circles to his new role. He has served various global organizations over the years in different capacities.
