Somalia has applied for a 90-day pause in withdrawal of African Union (AU) forces from the country.
The East African nation applied for the pause through the Office of the National Security.
In a letter dated September 19, Somalia applied for the postponement of the withdrawal of the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops from the country.
ATMIS has already reduced its forces in Somalia by 2,000 troops a few months ago.
It was to pull out a further 3,000 forces by September 30, 2023.
However, phase 2 of the drawdown might have to wait a bit longer now that Somalia applied for a three-month delay.
