The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the job market in Baidoa thus forcing many families to go without food for days.
Moreover, families have suffered regular evictions from their rented homes because of inability to raise money to clear their rent arrears.
The novel coronavirus has made it impossible for those who relied on casual labor in the past to hire new workers.
Without any income from casual employment, many Baidoa families are forced to forego food, accommodation and other basic necessities.
A 37-year old man known as Mohamed Abdi Ibrahim says the situation has made it impossible for him to fend for his five children.
Ibrahim says he has worked in the construction industry for the past 10 years. Income from his job has often been enough to meet his family’s daily needs.
However, COVID-19 has destroyed jobs.
The construction industry provides the bulk of the jobs that men and women in Baidoa need to earn their daily bread.
