COVID-19 Cases Spread to New Locations in Somalia

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced that COVID-19 has now spread into new locations in the country.

For weeks, the disease has been restricted to Mogadishu, Jubaland, and Puntland. However, latest reports show that it has now spread beyond these three regions.

Southwest State has seen the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to four.

Nevertheless, Banadir Region, which also includes Mogadishu, remains the worst hit location. On Tuesday, it was responsible for 41 out of the 48 reported cases.

Further, the health ministry also said that 17 of the 48 cases were females.

Nevertheless, Dr. Fawziya Abikar, the Minister of Health, said that five more people recovered to bring to 19 the total number of recoveries.

With the new tallies, Somalia now becomes the worst affected nation in the Horn of Africa region in the number of confirmed cases and deaths.
