Cyclone Gati has finally landed in Somalia.
It made the much-feared landfall on Sunday, November 22 evening and caused massive destruction along the Puntland coast.
The cyclone reportedly killed eight people before weakening as it made its way towards the Gulf of Aden, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The global organization said that the cyclone caused heavy rains that triggered flash floods in Bari, Puntland.
Consequently, Cyclone Gati has caused the displacement of 27,000 in Bossaso town.
Cumulatively, the number of people displaced in the Bari region has risen to 42,000 thus creating a humanitarian crisis.
OCHA also mentioned that the cyclone destroyed over 3,800 shelters while rendering 4,500 families without an income.
Countless livestock have also lost their lives in a region that is renowned for exporting livestock to the Gulf countries.
