The death toll from the ongoing floods in Somalia has now reached 96.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre confirmed this.
The ministers were briefed that heavy rains continue to be reported in southern Somalia.
Officials from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) briefed the ministers on the unfolding situation around the country.
El Nino is the cause of heavy rains and subsequent floods in Somalia.
SODMA representatives informed the cabinet that the floods have affected over 2 million people in Somalia with the majority in HirShabelle, Jubbaland, and Southwest states.
