President Said Abdullahi Deni of Somalia’s semiautonomous state of Puntland has recognized the crucial role that the Mayor of Mogadishu played in the new elections agreement.
On Tuesday, Deni met with Mayor Omar M. M. Filish, who also doubles as the Governor of Banadir region in Mogadishu.
During the meeting, Deni said that Mayor Filish deserves praise for playing a sterling role in ensuring that the talks proceeded smoothly to a successful conclusion.
Filish was present during the talks dubbed “National Consultation Conference” that lasted close to four days last week.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo had invited Filish to the talks.
Filish’s presence was interesting considering that he is not one of the five presidents of the Federal Member States (FMS).
Nevertheless, Farmaajo and the other regional leaders recognized the incredible contribution he could make to the discussion.
Deni also appreciated Filish for the warm and hospitable welcome accorded him and his team.
