A devastating drought, which puts the lives of millions of people at risk, has been recorded in Somalia.
An official spokesperson for the Jubaland State confirmed this news publically while weeping on Thursday, October 7.
The spokesperson spoke after the regional Council of Ministers held a session to discuss the dire situation.
Officials from the regional state’s Ministry of Agriculture informed their cabinet colleagues that the situation was quickly getting out of hand.
The three threats that Jubaland struggles with include scarcity of food, water, and feed for animals.
Further, the situation is the same in all three regions within the state; that is, Lower Juba, Middle Juba, and Gedo.
Lack of adequate water already threatens the security situation in the region.
Reports from the region indicate that pastoralists keep moving between Somalia and Kenya to access the scarcely available water.
The situation is so dire that families that had 300 livestock a few months ago now have to do with only 3-4 animals.
