The ongoing drought in Somalia could prevent more than 720,000 Somali students from returning to school in 2022.
Currently, formal schools around the country are closed.
However, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Somalia has been running classes for children displaced by the ongoing drought.
UNICEF now fears that close to 720,000 children could fail to report back when schools reopen.
Wafaa Saeed, the UNICEF Country Representative for Somalia, has appealed to various stakeholders to intervene fast.
