Efforts are reportedly being made to reconcile Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Puntland’s leader, Said Abdullahi Deni, amid ongoing tensions between the federal government and Puntland.
The need to reconcile them went up a notch higher following reports that the latest National Consultative Council (NCC) Summit will take place in Mogadishu this week.
The tensions have been fueled by disagreements over the federalization process, resource-sharing, and the balance of power between the central government and Puntland, Somalia’s semi-autonomous region.
These efforts to reconcile the two leaders are seen as critical for maintaining national unity and advancing Somalia’s federalism model, which is essential for its political stability and development.
The conflict between Puntland and the federal government has persisted, impacting both governance and development initiatives.
Diplomatic mediations, possibly involving regional actors, are being pursued to address the strained relations and ensure greater collaboration moving forward.
