Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has issued a stern warning to traders attempting to evade the recently introduced 5% sales tax by changing their merchant numbers.
This follows reports that some business owners have switched their merchant numbers to avoid the government’s automated tax deductions from business accounts.
The President emphasized that such actions undermine the country’s efforts to increase domestic revenue and warned that strict penalties would be imposed on those engaging in tax evasion.
He urged businesses to comply with the new tax regulations, which are crucial for supporting national development and financial stability.
