Egypt has delivered a significant consignment of heavy weapons to Somalia, which includes field guns and armored personnel carriers (APCs).
To facilitate the offloading of this shipment, the Port of Mogadishu was temporarily closed to commercial traffic.
This military assistance is seen as part of broader efforts to bolster Somalia’s security capabilities, especially as the Somali National Army (SNA) continues to confront threats from al-Shabab and other militant groups.
Egypt’s support reflects its commitment to enhancing Somalia’s defense sector.
The shipment comes at a time when the Somali government is making strides to strengthen its military capacity in preparation for further security transitions, including the upcoming ATMIS drawdown.
