Egypt plans to evacuate its teachers from Somalia over COVID-19 fears, the country’s Ministry of Education has announced.
Tarek Shawki, Egypt’s education minister, held discussions with Nabila Makram, the country’s Minister of Immigration over this issue.
The two government leaders hailed the teachers who traveled to Somalia and have been working in the East African country’s education sector for several years now.
However, with the emergence of COVID-19 in the Horn of African nation, education was disrupted when the Federal Government of Somalia closed all schools.
Consequently, all learning is now taking place online.
The immigration ministry confirmed discussions with officials of Air Cairo to consider ways of bringing back teachers based in Somalia back to the North African nation.
