El-Amine Says Ethiopia Has Solid Role to Play in AUPSC

The Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia, Souef Mohamed El-Amine, highlighted Ethiopia’s crucial role in the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) emphasizing its extensive experience and contributions to peacekeeping efforts.

Ethiopia has been a key player in various United Nations peacekeeping missions and demonstrated significant commitment during the Darfur conflict, showcasing its dedication to regional stability.

El-Amine noted that Ethiopia currently provides one of the largest contingents to missions such as the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), and potentially the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

He stressed the importance of Ethiopia’s involvement, stating that its deep understanding of the region and the threats to peace and stability makes its contribution invaluable.

This expertise allows Ethiopia to effectively address challenges and support efforts to maintain peace in conflict-affected areas like Somalia.
