Elders and intellectuals from the Maroodi-Jeh region have requested authorities to ensure that the proposed women quota is implemented in the upcoming polls in Somaliland.
The elders also reiterated their belief that women must play an active role in the country’s leadership and governance.
Consequently, they have asked legislators to approve and pass the laws that President Musa Bihi Abdi submitted to them as soon as possible.
Moreover, they also asked political leaders in the country to create space for women and support them on their quest for leadership.
The elders said this during a press conference addressed by one of them, Aqil Yassin Yusuf Farah. The elders acknowledged that women are the backbone of the country.
Other elders also addressed the media and agreed with their colleague’s words terming them an accurate representation of what they all believe in and want to see happening.
