Erdogan rejects Israel’s Somaliland recognition

CAIROTurkey‘s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that his government will not recognize Israel‘s recent decision to acknowledge Somaliland as an independent state, describing the move as a clear violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking during a visit to Egypt on Wednesday, President Erdogan emphasized that any future actions regarding the status of the northern region must align with the will of all Somali people.

Upholding National Unity

Erdogan reiterated Ankara’s long-standing diplomatic position, stating that matters concerning Somaliland’s political status should be addressed through mechanisms that uphold Somalia’s unity and reflect the collective desires of the population.

The statement serves to reinforce the close strategic partnership between Mogadishu and Ankara, countering the diplomatic momentum Somaliland has sought following the recognition announcement from Tel Aviv.
