Ethiopia Fails to Convince UNSC Not to Discuss Row with Somalia

Ethiopia has failed in its efforts to convince the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to cancel discussions on its row with Somalia.

Consequently, UNSC is expected to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the deteriorating relations between Ethiopia and Somalia.

The emergency meeting takes place on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York.

Somalia accused Ethiopia of signing an “illegal” Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland.

The MoU was signed on January 1, 2024.

Since then, relations between the two neighboring nations continue to deteriorate with Somalia accusing Ethiopia of violating it’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
