A top official of the elite Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) has confirmed that the troops killed 17 Al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia.
The confirmation is interesting since ENDF rarely publicizes its activities.
In a statement issued on Monday, Col. Habtom Zenebe of the FDRE Defense Force confirmed this news to the public.
Col. Zenebe, who is also the Deputy Commander of Operation for the Eastern Air Force, confirmed that the mission took place in two villages – Kurteele and Yurkud.
He commended the media for “acting swiftly” and “opening fire” when the militants targeted an ENDF convoy, which was on its way to Baidoa, Southwest State’s administrative capital.
In the process, ENDF killed 17 militants.
A contingent comprising non-AMISOM troops from Ethiopia has been camping around Doolow Town, Gedo region for almost a month.
