EUTM-S Trains Somali Soldiers in Mission Planning at GDTC

Mogadishu, Somalia – In a major step toward strengthening Somalia’s security capabilities, the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S) has launched a specialized training course for officers of the Somali National Army (SNA) at the General Dhagabadan Training Centre (GDTC).

The focus of the training is on mission planning using the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), a key operational framework used by modern armed forces.

The MDMP course is designed to enhance the operational planning and leadership skills of SNA officers, equipping them with the tools needed to conduct and lead successful military operations.

The training aims to build capacity within the SNA by instilling structured planning methodologies and improving coordination and decision-making under pressure.

EUTM-S trainers, working closely with Somali military leadership, emphasized that the training aligns with long-term goals to develop a professional, self-reliant national force capable of addressing Somalia’s security challenges.

This effort is part of the European Union’s broader commitment to peacebuilding and stability in Somalia, supporting the country’s path toward sustainable security through strategic defense sector reform.
